ITIL® 4 exams and certifications

In the world of information technology and business, the term ITIL® is becoming more and more familiar, as IT and business process stakeholders can find it easier to apply this popular best-practice methodology when developing strategies, making decisions and designing processes. Nowadays, it is not enough to know the methodology, but in many cases, employers can expect employees to demonstrate this relevant knowledge by organizing formal certifications.

Changes to IT operator exams - ITIL®, PRINCE2®

ITIL® and PRINCE2® products manufacturer, as announced by AXELOS:
  • From 1 July 2022, the ITIL® 4 Managing Transition Professional exam will also be discontinued.
Regarding the format of the exams:
  • As of 1 February 2022, the paper-based in-person exam will be discontinued, and exams will now only be available in an online proctored version. However, they can still be requested from Training360 Ltd in the form of an exam voucher.
  • All purchased exams come with a booklet containing the knowledge required for the exam.

ITIL® 4 exams and certificationsNew

The previous v3 certification system has been simplified slightly and allows (partial) upgrading from the previous ITIL® 3 Expert certification. The foundation is still a Foundation qualification, on top of which the two intermediate specialisations, Managing Professional (MP) and Strategic Leader (SL), are built. The highest level is ITIL® Master, which requires the MP and SL knowledge and associated qualifications.

  • The qualification can be obtained after successful completion of specific modules related to the specialisation
  • The modules are required for obtaining the ITIL® Managing Professional (MP) or ITIL® Strategic Leader (SL) qualifications
  • The module indicated can also be used to obtain the ITIL® Managing Professional (MP) or ITIL® Strategic Leader (SL) qualifications
  • A transition/upgrade module to the ITIL® MP qualification, for those with ITIL® v3 Expert certification or at least 17 credits

The Foundation level covers the basic concepts and processes of ITIL® 4, their basic business implementation and the functioning and integrability of related methodologies (Agile, DevOps, Lean). As it is a basic level of knowledge, it may be of interest to those who are not yet using it in their work, but would like to learn about IT service management and would like a formal paper on it. To obtain the title, it is necessary to pass the new ITIL® 4 Foundation exam. The Foundation qualification is a prerequisite for higher level Managing Professional or Strategic Leader, intermediate level training and qualifications.

The ITIL® Managing Professional (ITIL® MP) title is partly similar to the former v3 Capability specialisation.

It is primarily aimed at Practitioner IT professionals who work with technology and 'digital' teams within the business. The Managing Professional (MP) specialisation covers the practical and technical skills required to successfully and effectively use, implement and manage IT projects, teams and workflows. To obtain the qualification, candidates must have passed the ITIL® 4 Foundation and the indicated ITIL® Specialist and ITIL® Strategist exams, which require formal training.

The qualification can be upgraded and obtained in one step with the Managing Professional Transition exam for those who have previous ITIL® v3 Intermediate exams and have earned at least 17 credits.

The ITIL® Strategic Leader (ITIL® SL) title is similar to the previous v3 Lifecycle specialisation and is primarily useful for managers, leaders, decision makers and planners. Those who obtain the qualification are able to apply and extend the values and solutions provided by ITIL® 4 not only to the operation of IT, but also to all digital-based services.

An ITIL® Strategic Leader has a high level of understanding of how IT can influence and drive business strategy. To obtain the title, candidates must pass the Foundation, the designated ITIL® Leader and the ITIL® Strategist exams, which require formal training.

The ITIL® Master qualification is the highest title available and holders must also hold the Managing Professional and Strategic Leader qualifications. A minimum of 5 years of IT service management work experience is also required. The Master exam is a practical exam requiring the development and defence of specific case studies.

Mock exam

PeopleCert® official mock exams are live, scored exams designed to give candidates the experience of taking the real exam and help them familiarise themselves with the exam material.

Comment

If there are multiple versions of the mock exams (e.g. Version A, Version B, etc.), each version will indicate a unique test for the same rating, so participants may have access to a number of different questions in preparation for the exam.
