A fundamental problem for most organisations

Despite the huge benefits that DevOps brings to companies, in most cases software implementation projects fail due to cultural and behavioural issues.

Although the market now has a fundamental expectation of fast, quality and secure service delivery, most organisations are unfortunately still unable to manage the organisational changes required to achieve this. They are unprepared and find it difficult to put into practice what they have learned in the theoretical training.

This gap is usually bridged with technical and software tools that are both very expensive and do not deliver the results the business expects. But the main problems remain.

This is where The Phoenix Project business simulation training can help!

Background of the Enterprise Simulation

Gene Kim, Kevin Behr and George Spafford’s brilliant novel The Phoenix Project shows how a fictional company faces often conflicting challenges on the developer and operator sides and manages to overcome them, using DevOps principles, to achieve significant improvements and business results.

This simulation is built entirely on the foundations of the book, so that you can experience the dynamics of what happens.

The basic story

Parts Unlimited is in trouble because newspaper articles reveal the company's poor business performance. Their only chance is to implement The Phoenix Project to make the company competitive and profitable again.

The project will transform IT and the business, and its success will have a huge impact on the day-to-day running of the retail business. There are huge backlogs in projects and day-to-day operations, as well as delays in the development of essential functions for the business.

The challenge

Your team will have various roles within Parts Unlimited on both the business side and the IT side. During the business simulation, you will be able to make improvements, troubleshoot problems, build applications and guide your colleagues to ensure that the expected improvements are completed on time and errors are avoided.

The biggest challenge is applying DevOps principles in this serious business simulation. Over the four rounds, you will have to deal with IT problems and business projects and ensure that The Phoenix Project is completed on time. But be careful, as the business side will try to influence the developers with new ideas and demands, and divert resources from the tasks originally planned.
