As an employer and employee, mental hygiene is now more important than anything else

How to prepare for the 4th wave?

We are hearing more and more about the 4th wave, and as we approach September, some people are already taking it for granted that we will soon be closed again.

How does this affect the employer and the employee?

We could say that now it will be decided whether we really did the transition and recovery well, or whether there is still something to be polished. If we experience it as an adventure, starting all over again, then the sustainability of the company plan is not fully effective. Back in May, we clearly recommended that companies, if they can, definitely think about a hybrid solution and not a full recovery. A full recovery can trigger another stress process, which means adapting to the 5th change in everyone's life, within 18 months. This is a huge strain both physically and mentally. As employers and employees, we experience that the few weeks when we should be recharging in the sun, in the summer, on vacation, are spent thinking about whether there will be a home office, whether there will be online education, whether a 3rd vaccination is needed, etc.

What is mental hygiene and how do we apply it?

We need to take more and more care of our mental health. Mental health is an endeavor that focuses on maintaining mental and physical health, and includes resilience, a positive outlook on life, and stress management.

Mental hygiene builds on our existing state, its task is to preserve mental health, prevent mental problems and diseases, and also to promote the individual's psychological integration and attitude to change. In short: it can be described as an attitude striving for a balance of physical, mental, spiritual and social well-being.

Every manager knows that colleagues who are stressed make many more mistakes, their ability to concentrate decreases, they develop illnesses, and as a result, they are on sick leave for shorter or longer periods, which can also result in long-term absences.

How to prepare for the 4th wave?

So the issue of mental health is an increasingly important issue for both employees and employers in this period and in the next six months. If the mental health of employees is in order, then most likely the workplace is also functioning well. And the reverse is also true: if the organization is functioning well, then it is most likely run by employees with good mental health. And of course, this leads to us operating as an efficient, effective and successful organization.

What can we do now?
